Jorge D\u00edaz, who has more than 35 years of experience in the national industry and mining, announces that they hope to turn the city of Antofagasta into their base for the development of artificial intelligence for mining.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LAMS, a company focused on automation technologies, was founded over 22 years ago, drawing on the experience of its founder, Jorge D\u00edaz, who has more than 35 years of experience in the national industry and mining sector. \u201cWe believe that the union of science and technology is a great support for many processes and systems, allowing them to be much safer, more sustainable, and more efficient. At the same time, they fulfill the role of protecting the ecosystem, improving the quality of life for society, helping people, and contributing to the conservation of the planet,\u201d explains Jorge D\u00edaz, describing part of the spirit that drives them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, LAMS has become a supplier for many of the country's major projects, from mining operations to pulp mills and refineries, to name a few. \"We've introduced cutting-edge technologies that were later widely adopted in production processes. That has been a great source of satisfaction,\" says Jorge, who in this interview elaborates on what LAMS is, its challenges, and its main achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, competition in the mining market is fierce. What is your value proposition?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the beginning, LAMS has sought technological solutions that enable a better future. We understand the difficulties and complexity of mining operations. Therefore, we are technology providers of \"helmet and boots.\" Our work consists of supplying low-maintenance solutions so that equipment operates without requiring constant attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always provide the best service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Regarding their business strategy, Jorge D\u00edaz comments: \u201cWe are pleased to say that we have been working with the same international manufacturers for years and continue to be suppliers to the most important mining companies and industries in the country. We have worked with major mining companies such as Codelco, Escondida, Pelambres, Collahuasi, CMP, El Abra, Anglo American, among others. Providing the best service, listening to the client, assisting them on-site, delivering a quick response, and offering solutions with an immediate return on investment are in our DNA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What type of solutions does it offer and what are its benefits compared to others on the market?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the area of \u200b\u200bindustrial networks, we have 20 years of experience in electrical substations with communication equipment that meets the high demands of areas with high electrical stress. Our partner is Kyland, an Asian leader in networking, traffic control, and digital substations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the goal of reducing our water footprint, we collaborate by minimizing scale buildup in pipes and equipment. Using eco-friendly technology\u2014electromagnetic technology that doesn't require chemicals\u2014we improve water transport, reducing overconsumption. We do this in partnership with the UK-based company HydroPath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, there is LAMSCAM, our industrial computer invention developed by engineers from our company and integrated with the prestigious thermal camera from the German company Mobotix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which companies and clients are your solutions aimed at?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Currently, our core business is LAMSCAM. This solution allows us to bridge the IT and OT worlds of Industry 4.0. With LAMSCAM, we measure temperature remotely in locations where conventional technologies cannot, such as inside mill casings or on the insulators of electrical substations. LAMSCAM is designed for applications where uncontrolled overheating could lead to a catastrophic event, such as the failure of critical equipment, a fire, or a workplace accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monitoring critical areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jorge D\u00edaz explains: \u201cWith LAMSCAM, we monitor critical areas 24\/7, issue alerts, record data, and, most importantly, prevent condition monitoring personnel from having to travel to hazardous locations with pollution, toxic gases, or remote areas\u2014situations that are often necessary to obtain representative measurements.\u201d This solution is widely used by sustainability, operations, and maintenance departments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would be the main achievements of 2022?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

2022 has been a very busy year. We opened an operation in Antofagasta, where we built an artificial intelligence (AI) development team with young engineers born in the northern region; all of them great collaborators. We've decided to establish our AI development base for the mining industry in the Antofagasta Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, working with LAMSCAM has been very challenging. We were invited by Mobotix to a technology trade show in Las Vegas, USA, to present our solution. We also attended Exponor, where it was very rewarding to reconnect after the pandemic. We worked extensively with our clients and discovered that wonderful things can be done in Chile in the world of Industry 4.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your goals for 2023?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The year 2022 set the bar very high, which motivates us to continue managing our work with the highest quality. We will continue to increase LAMSCAM's capabilities with cloud services, neural networks, and computer vision for mining applications. For us, the greatest challenge is always to continue meeting our quality standards and improving our innovation offering so that our clients receive the very best from us.
